SUMMARY:UK National Rally at Usk
DESCRIPTION:There is still time to register for the 2024 VGC UK National Rally at Usk – through the kind hospitality of the South Wales Gliding Club. This will be the first VGC national rally in Wales  for many years. \nLast year we held a very enjoyable mini-rally (The ‘Coronation’- Rally- goodness\, that  seems a long time ago\, doesn’t it?)   This ‘trial run’  showed what  friendly people they are at Usk; also that it must be one of the easiest  rural airfields  to reach\, with not a single hairpin bend\, narrow lane\,  or clutch-mangling hill climb.  It is  a pastoral flat-land site\, but with a gentle ridge close by\, and dramatic terrain not very far away; wave flights are  a real possibility. \nThere’s a Skylaunch winch and an excellent Pawnee tug ( ex-Southdown- so it is in great shape!) \nThe nearby town of Usk\, incidentally\, is really picturesque and offers plenty of accommodation if you are not camping. SUMMARY:Welcome back to Parham for Jose Weiss 115!
DESCRIPTION:In 2007\, 2008 and 2009\,  Southdown GC hosted a unique trio of VGC Rallies. \nThe last of these  gloriously celebrated  the centenary of   what  the late Martin Simons calls the world’s first soaring flight\, when Eric Gordon England   gained maybe 50  feet altitude  over the South Downs (very close to Southdown’s Parham site) in the Jose Weiss bird-shaped glider called Olive. \nSouthdown GC has become an outstandingly successful club\, blessed with its closeness to the finest soarable ridge in the South of England- and often some very benign  sea breeze fronts as well. \nFrom 17-21 June this year\, we invite VGC members to join us once again!  Very sadly \, many of our previous visitors are no longer with us\, but we welcome those who maybe have not flown at Parham before\, as well as those who still remember that wonderful trio of rallies.  Incidentally\, although the rally officially opens on Monday 17th June\, we anticipate and welcome some ‘mission creep’\, with arrivals and departures in the weekends before and after the rally itself\, particularly as the weekend of 22/23 June is our habitual Longest Day event! \nIn recent years\, there have been some changes and improvements at Parham. In particular\, the Clubhouse has been totally rebuilt (to the design of the late Jim Cornish\, formerly a VGC member and Oly 463 pilot). We now have a more powerful Tost winch\,  and have also joined the ‘Eurofox Club’\, with two of these great towplanes\, which are so well suited to vintage operations. \nWe intend  to have some model flying too. Champion aeromodeller and kit originator\, Chris Foss\, is a very long-established Southdown member.  If you get busy now\, there is still time to build a model of the historic Jose Weiss ‘Olive’ glider! \nThere will be social events and we may even be joined by some members of the  extended  Weiss family . \nMore details will follow  soon\, but there is already a dedicated web page for the rally\, with a detailed guide prepared by Craig Lowrie\, at https://www.southdowngliding.co.uk/ \nPlease contact me at ukrallysec@vintagegliderclub.org

SUMMARY:Vintage and Retro Gliding week Ålleberg/Sweden 2024
DESCRIPTION:SVS\, Segelflygets Veteransällskap in Sweden invites you to Ålleberg 2024 from July 6 to July 14. We welcome you all! With or without vintage or retro-gliders (1955-1970)!  We fly and have fun every day during this week. Daily briefing at 9 AM at the gliding museum. \nThe venue is Ålleberg\, near Falköping between the two  big lakes Vänern and Vättern. Swedens ancient hilltop gliding site was inaugurated in 1941 and it is still the home of the Swedish Soaring  Federations office and gliding instructor courses as well as aerobatic and cloud flying endorsements. It also houses  our fantastic glidermuseum and a separate private vintage and retroglider collection. We have on site simple accomodation in single and double rooms and a camping site with electricity as well as sauna\, restaurant and above all\, our fantastic nature. \nThe grass airstrip of 700 m is 100 m above the plain and allows for good  slope fsoaring in W-NW wind. Thermal conditions are also good and there are plenty of outlandingfields available. We fly mostly aerotow but occasionally we also launch by winch. There may be some limited hangarspace available. Radio is not mandatory in our area and airspace is free up to FL 95. \nWe would love to see you with or without your own glider. From the continent there are several routes and ferries\, we recommend  either the ferry-way Puttgarden-Rödby and then Helsingör-Helsingborg or the bridges way via Stora  Bält (Denmark) and Copenhagen-Malmö but there are others. \nRegistration and participation fee 0 kr \nMembership fee SVS 35 Euro (to fly our gliders) \nSingle bedroom 25 Euro/night \nBreakfast in the restaurant is 8 Euro\, lunch 10 Euro\, evening meal 13 Euro. Aerotow 500 m 25 Euro 800 m 34 Euro (subject to changes) Winch 6 Euro at Ålleberg. Glider rental <30 min 25 Euro\, >30 min 35 Euro (+ aerotow or winch). \nIf you dont bring your own glider we have available twoseaters Bergfalke II/55\, Slinfsby T21b  and  sometimes Bocian. Oktober 2024\nLEONARDO Hannover Airport\, Petzelstr. 60\, 30669 Hannover\nContact: mwklemmer@gmx.de\nTickets: 50 €/£45 each (including welcome drink and buffet)\nThis year’s the Annual Dinner will take place in a conference room of the LEONARDO Hotel directly at Hanover Airport. It starts with a welcome drink from 6pm and continues with the traditional program (dinner/speeches/award ceremonies/raffle) and open end.\nRooms can also be booked in the same building: until 04.09.2024\, a contingent of 10 single rooms and 10 double rooms is reserved there for the overnight stay from 05.10 to 06.10 at the price of 96\,–€ / 116\,–€ per night including breakfast buffet.\nPlease book your room directly to LEONARDO Hannover Airport info.hannoverairport@leonardo-hotels.com under the keyword “Vintage Glider Club” or “Klemmer”.\nRooms can also be rented directly on the airport at the Maritim Airport Hotel. Other accommodation options exist in the surrounding districts (e.g. Langenhagen) and of course also in the city centre of Hanover (it is best to research under www.booking.com).\nThe subway runs from the airport to the main train station every 30 minutes until 03.00 in the morning (journey time approx. 18 minutes).\nOn Friday evening\, 04.10.2024 at 7pm\, a rendezvous dinner will take place in the restaurant of the LEONARDO Hannover Airport Hotel – if you are interested\, please register in advance by 04.09.2024 at mwklemmer@gmx.de so that a large table can be reserved.\nOn Saturday time to be confirmed)\, there will be the opportunity to take part in a guided tour in English and German through the Laatzen-Hannover Aviation Museum (price to be confirmed). The Aviation Museum is located south of the city\, the LEONARDO Hotel north of the city (distance between both locations approx. 35 minutes by car; 70 minutes by public transport). Of course\, there are alternatively many sights in and outside the city – and within the airport itself. Suggestions can be found on the VGC webside under events / Annual Dinner.\nIf several people would like to get together for individual excursion destinations\, this can be coordinated on request\, then please let us know at mwklemmer@gmx.de.\nPlease also use this e-mail address for registrations for participation in the Annual Dinner as well as for the guided tour of the Aviation Museum Laatzen-Hannover.\nLast but not least: whether it will be possible to visit the Oppershausen glider airfield near Celle on Sunday\, 06.10.\, and also to fly there (distance from Hanover approx. 45 km)\, depends primarily on the weather (and of course city tours can also be continued on Sunday).\n\nHints on the-webside\n\nEnd of Season Glider Meeting in Oppershausen for the Annual Dinner \nIn the early years of the VGC\, the Annual Dinner was held regularly at an End of Season – Glider Meeting. On the occasion of the 50th Annual Dinner\, this tradition is to be repeated. It had already been announced in the VGC News and the website that flight operations would be offered on Sunday\, 06.10. (as in 2023 in Ringmer after the Annual Dinner in Eastbourne). \nNow Andrea and Thorsten are planning through their club\, the Hannover Aero Club\, in suitable weather from Thursday\, 3. October to Sunday\, October 6th at our Oppershausen airfield (near Celle\, approx. 40 km from Hannover). In addition to their Kranich III and Cumulus\, Burkhard and Tjark will appear with the Ka 2b and an open Bergfalke III will be made available. Of course\, you can bring your own gliders\, but there is hardly any hangar space available. \nIt can be spent at the airfield with campers and tents for moderate fees. The airfield has a nice campsite with good infrastructure such as kitchen\, toilet and shower rooms and thus offers an alternative to an overnight stay in a hotel for the Annual Dinner. \nFor the trip on Saturday from the airfield to the Annual Dinner in Hannover and back to Oppershausen\, we can organize carpools. \nWho is interested in participating in this VGC flight camp (with or without plane) for 1 to 4 days\, please also contact at mwklemmer@gmx.de by 20.09.2024. \n
